DAAD Annual Scholarships for Filipinos - AY 2014 - 2015

The DAAD offers annually scholarships for post-graduate research and doctoral studies to qualified Filipino applicants. You can find the general information about this scholarship program below.

Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates and Young Academics and Scientists (including the "sandwich program")

This program provides an opportunity to carry out a research project or a course of continuing education at a German university or non-university reasearch institute. At the time of application, no more than six years should have passed since the graduate gained the last degree; in the case of doctoral students, no more than three years should have passed since starting the doctoral process; and in the case of post-docs, no more than two years should have passed since gaining the doctorate. In the case of postdocs who are applying for a short stay (of up to 6 months) no more than four years should have passed since gaining the doctorate.

Within the “Sandwich program”, PhD students carry out their research and studies alternately in the Philippines and in Germany. The candidate must be enrolled in a PhD program in a Philippine university, the extensive and detailed research proposal must be accompanied by a work and time schedule agreed upon by the Philippine and the German academic. The doctorate is obtained in the Philippine university.

Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists

These grants aim to provide foreign academics and scientists working in higher education or research institutes with an opportunity to complete a research project at a German state institution of higher education or non-university research institute lasting from 1 to 3 months. Applications are open to excellently qualified academics and scientists who should generally hold a doctorate/PhD.
Deadline for submission of applications:
- 15 October 2012 for a period between January and June 2013
- 15 April 2013 for a period between July and December 2013

Re-invitation program for Former DAAD Scholarship Holders

Former DAAD One-year scholarship holders, study scholarship holders and grant holders with a scholarship/grant lasting more than six months can apply for grants to complete research or a work project at a German state institution of higher education or non-university research institute lasting from 1 to 3 months.

Scholarships for Artists and Architects

D.1. Study Scholarships

These study scholarships aim to provide foreign applicants from the field of Fine Art, Design, Film, Music, Architecture as well as Performing Arts (Drama, Direction, Dance, Choreography, etc.) with an opportunity to complete a course of extension studies, without gaining a formal degree or qualification, at a German state (public) or state-recognised higher education institution. At the time of application, no more than six years should have passed since the graduate gained his degree. Applicants, who have been a resident in Germany for more than one year at the time of application, cannot be considered.
In addition, special leaflets for the fields of Fine Arts, Design and Film, Music, Architecture as well as Performing Arts (Drama, Direction, Dance, Choreography, etc.) provide information on aspects such as the work samples (portfolio) which applicants need to submit.

D.2. Study Visits for Academics

The study visits for academics programme aims to enable lecturers from the fields of Fine Arts, Design, Film, Music, Architecture as well as Performing Arts (Drama, Direction, Dance, Choreography, etc.) to apply for a supported study visit for the purpose of artistic cooperation with a German host institution. These visits will last between 1 – 3 months. Applicants must be lecturing at a higher education institution in the home country. A well-planned and convincing project must be accompanied by a written confirmation of academic supervision or confirmation of agreement with a German institution of higher education.

- 15 October 2012 for a period between January and June 2013
- 15 April 2013 for a period between July and December 2013

University Summer Courses offered in Germany for Foreign Students and Graduates

These grants are awarded to enable students in Bachelor’s and Master’s programs to attend German language and area studies courses plus special language/terminology courses that are offered by state (public) or state-recognised German higher education institutions and by affiliated language schools (list of courses: www.daad.de/deutschland/deutsch-lernen/sommerkurse/00490.en.html ). Applicants must have completed as least 2 academic years of study at the time of starting their funded stay.  Applicants need to submit a certificate on their German language proficiency skills (at least be equivalent to level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)). Since 2007 this must be done through OnDaF, a computerized test to be taken under supervision of the DAAD Lecturer. Applicants should contact Ms. Natalie Lange at the Department of European Languages, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City (googlemail%27%com,daad%27%manila), who will set a date for the test for October or November. Applications for this program should also be submitted to Ms. Lange on or before 10 December 2012.

Study Visits/Study Seminars and Practicals to Germany by groups of foreign students

Information visits by groups of foreign students under an academic lecturer with the aim of establishing and developing contacts, undertaking tours, meetings and discussions between the home institution and German institutions in their specific academic field. These visits should be no less than 7 days and no more than 12 days. Groups should be made up of at least 10 and must not, as a rule, exceed 15 persons. In addition, funding can be provided for one university teacher as group leader.
Please pay particular attention to the different deadlines for the submission of applications for Study Visits to Germany for groups of foreign students and that the deadlines indicated below are for the date of receipt at the DAAD Office in Bonn. As the DAAD receives numerous applications for this program, please submit your application in good time, at least 2 months before the deadline.
- 1 February each year for trips to commence on 1 June
- 1 May each year for trips to commence on 1 September
- 1 November each year for trips to commence on 1 March
