DAAD-SEARCA scholarships given to 11 graduate students

The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) awarded scholarships sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to 11 students this year.

The 2011 recipients are Ergilio F. Vicente (MS in Community Development), Myint Myint Soe (PhD in Entomology), Ana Jeannie R. Araujo (MS in Community Development), Mario Jose Morais (Ms in Animal Science), Natalino B. Martins (MS in Animal Science), Le Thi Thanh Loan (MS in Agricultural Economics), Khin Thanda Oo (PhD in Horticulture), Quyen Din Ha (PhD in Community Development), Queenie Ann L. Curayag (PhD in Food Science and Technology) and Daud Samsudewa (PhD in Animal Science) all based in UP Los Baños; while Rey B. Lara (MA in Urban and Regional Planning) was the lone recipient from UP Diliman.

The scholars were acknowledged by Dr. Gil C. Saguiguit, Jr., Director of SEARCA, Dr. Editha C. Cedicol, manager of SEARCA’s Graduate Scholarship Department, and Ms. Natalie Lange of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) during a formal awarding ceremony at the University of the Philippines-Los Banos.

SEARCA was established by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) in 1966 to provide high quality and development-oriented graduate studies in agriculture, economics and natural sciences, and resources for research programs related to the problems of the Southeast Asian region. DAAD assists SEARCA in providing Masteral and PhD degrees in agriculture, forestry and related fields at SEARCA study posts in South East Asia.

DAAD has been a partner of SEARCA for more than 36 years. At present, the DAAD-SEARCA scholarship program has awarded a total of 332 graduate scholarships.
