The German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI), in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ECCP) brought 8 German solar energy firms to the country for the first Philippine-German Solar Energy Forum.
The forum is a project under the “Renewable Energies Export Initiative” of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. With the flagship title “Renewables – Made in Germany”, this initiative was created to encourage other countries; especially in Southeast Asia, to invest in renewable energy technology to promote climate protection.
The two one-day forums were held on November 21 and 24, in Metro Manila and Ceburespectively. These were attended by representatives of the Department of Energy, the Philippine Solar Alliance, and of the following German companies: Donauer Solartechnik Vertriebs GmbH, Energiebau Solarstomsysteme GmbH, Hoppecke Batterien GmbH & Co KG, IBC Solar AG, Inutec Solarzentrum GmbH i.G., Schott Solar AG, SMA Solar Technology AG, and Sonnenwerft GmbH.
Among the topics discussed were the Status Quo of Solar Energy in the Philippines and Germany, German Hightech Products and Best Practices for the Philippine Solar Market, Innovative Rural Electrification solutions, and Solar Market Development from an SME perspective.
Some 260 local businessmen actively participated in the event.
The 8 German firms also participated in business-to-business meetings with local power companies to explore potential partnerships. They also met with officials of the Board of Investment, the Department of Energy and of financial and educational institutions.
