The German government has recently provided around 100,000 Euros (roughly 6 million Pesos) through Karl Kübel Stiftung, a German organization for children’s and family aid, to fund a project supporting the fight against sex trafficking of children and women through awareness raising. The 3-year project which will be implemented in eight municipalities in the provinces of Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur in Mindanao, targets around 10,000 people - mostly children and young women.
Its goal is to reduce cases of sexual exploitation with education and awareness raising about the dangers of sexual exploitation thus making it more difficult for traffickers to continue their work and gain access to communities.
Among others, activities will include training sessions for members of 24 barangay councils as well as members of civil society on topics like children’s and women’s rights, child protection, human trafficking and law. In addition, there will be an awareness campaign with the media and a mobile cinema that will help raise awareness about human rights and the importance of protection against sexual exploitation. Lastly, the project will strengthen the network between local authorities and civil society to ensure persecution of cases of sexual exploitation.
