Germany grants 500,000 Euros humanitarian aid for Sendong victims
The Federal Republic of Germany has decided to provide around 500,000 Euros (roughly 30 million Pesos) in humanitarian emergency aid for the victims of the tropical storm “Sendong”, which has caused widespread devastation and loss of life in parts of Mindanao last weekend.
The funds will be used to distribute urgently needed aid supplies such as hygiene kits, mosquito nets and other vital goods.
In a statement on 21 December 2011, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said that people in the affected areas are fighting for their life and urgently need assistance. He further stated that with the funds, the Federal Foreign Office wants to do its part in alleviating the hardship of the people.
Germany is continuously monitoring the situation in the Philippines and is ready to provide more humanitarian assistance.
