Foreign Minister Westerwelle conveys his condolences to Philippine Government

The Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Guido Westerwelle, has conveyed his condolences to  Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert F. del Rosario in connection with the disaster wrought upon the Philippines by the tropical storm “Sendong” (international name 'Washi'), in a telegram of December 19. The message is as follows:

"Dear Colleague,

It is with great consternation that I learnt of the heavy typhoon and the flooding which claimed so many deaths and injured people in the South of your country.

I would like to convey to the Philippine Government, the Philippine citizens and especially to the people in the affected regions our sincere condolences. Our deepest sympathy is with the families of the victims, the missing and the injured.

Germany stands by the Philippines in this hour of need and offers its help and support.
