Ambassador Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortsch gave a farewell visit to President Aquino at Malacanang Palace on September 8, as he finishes his term as German envoy to Manila.
Since his start in 2007, Ambassador Lortsch has played an active role in strengthening German-Philippine relations. Despite the unresolved Fraport/Piatco issue to which the ambassador has persistently called for a solution to, his tenure has seen the growth of German BPOs in the country, who now employ about 5,000 Filipinos. His term has also seen the expansion of German firms, particularly in the PEZA (Philippine Export Zone Authority) zones. These, along with the consistent influx of German ODA (Overseas Development Assistance) for climate change studies and peace and development projects in Mindanao, are the makings of his successful tour in the Philippines.
Ambassador Lortsch is scheduled to leave for his next posting in Myanmar.
