Former Minister of Economics of Germany visits Philippines

Former Minister of Economics and Technologies and incumbent Member of the Committee of Foreign Affairs of the German Bundestag, Michael Glos is in the country from 31 January – 4 February.

He will have bilateral talks with Vice President Jejomar Binay, and Secretary Albert del Rosario of the Department of Foreign Affairs. He will also meet with former President Fidel Ramos and former House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. Mr. Glos will be briefed on the projects of the Hans-Seidel-Foundation by its Director in the Philippines, Paul Schäfer. He is also scheduled to visit Cagayan de Oro, upon invitation of Congressman Rufus Rodriguez, to assess the relief operations for the victims of Typhoon Sendong.

The German government granted approximately Php 30 million in humanitarian aid for the victims in Cagayan de Oro through humanitarian organizations like the German Red Cross. In his statement after the tragic event, the German Foreign Minister Guido Westwerwelle, had extended his sympathies to the victims of Sendong, and expressed the Federal Foreigh Office’s intent to help alleviate the suffering of the people.

As part of his visit in CDO,. Mr. Glos will visit the Department of Social Welfare and Development Evacuation Center, and the Health Center of Dr. Dietmar Schug, who heads the Committee of German Doctors in the Philippines.
