On Monday, the German Ambassador opened the Science Film Festival organised by the Goethe-Institute Manila. The speakers also included the French Ambassador and Jeanette Tuason from the Philippine UNESCO Comission. In his speech in front of 200 selected elementary students at the SM Mall of Asia, the Ambassador stressed his concern about the lack of engineering students in both the Philippines and Germany. Since technical innovations in various areas are needed in order to remain competitive in the future, both countries have a great interest in a larger number of more well-trained scientific experts.

The Film Festival is intended to raise the children’s curiosity and to reverse the declining lack of interest in science over recent years. The Science Film Festival will last until November 30.
