Germany provides 1,000,000 Euros for Humanitarian Aid measures of the ICRC in the Philippines
Ambassador Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortsch announced on October 21 that the Federal Government of Germany to support the Humanitarian efforts of the International Committee of the Red Cross with an amount of 1,000,000 Euros (roughly 70 million Pesos).
The German contribution will be used particularly to support victims of the conflict in Mindanao, both those seeking shelter in the IDP (internally displaced persons) camps and those who are sick or wounded as a result of violent clashes, and cover the time from now until the end of the year 2009.
Germany provides additional 800,000 Euros in humanitarian aid for the victims of "Ondoy" and "Pepeng"
Ambassador Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortsch announced on October 19 that the Federal Government of Germany has decided to provide additional 800,000 Euros (roughly 55 million Pesos) in aid to the victims of "Ondoy" and "Pepeng".
Out of this amount, 700,000 Euros (roughly 48 million Pesos) will be put at the disposal of the World Food Program. Another 100,000 Euros (roughly 7 million Pesos) will be provided to the Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe, one of the major humanitarian aid organizations in Germany.
This contribution adds to the 500,000 Euros of humanitarian aid pledged on September 30 in the immediate aftermath of tropical storm "Ondoy", bringing the overall aid of the Federal Government of Germany to 1.3 million Euros (roughly 90 million Pesos).
German government provides 500,000 Euros in emergency humanitarian aid to Ondoy victims
Ambassador Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortsch announced that the Federal Government of Germany has decided to provide 500,000 Euros (roughly 35 million Pesos) in emergency humanitarian aid for the victims of the tropical storm “Ondoy”, which has wrought havoc over Central Luzon on September 26. The funds will be placed at the disposal of German Humanitarian Aid Organizations Deutsches Rotes Kreuz (German Red Cross) and other German relief Agencies. The main purpose of the aid is to provide urgently needed food and sanitary products for the victims of the disaster.
The relief organizations will cooperate closely with their counterparts in the Philippines in order to ensure that the aid reaches the victims immediately and directly.
The Federal Government of Germany with this measure wishes to contribute to the overall effort to relieve the distress of the victims of Ondoy.
President Köhler conveys his condolences to President Arroyo
The Federal President of Germany, Horst Köhler, has conveyed his condolences to H.E. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, President of the Philippines, in connection with the disaster wrought upon the Philippines by the tropical storm “Ondoy”, in a telegram of September 29. The text of the telegram is as follows:
“Madam President,
I was deeply shocked to learn of the natural disaster that struck Manila and Central Luzon over the weekend.
I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy to you, also on behalf of my fellow Germans. Please convey our condolences to the families of the victims. Our thoughts are with them in these difficult times.
Our thoughts are also with the rescue workers and with those who lost everything they owned in the storm. Germany is prepared to provide humanitarian aid in order to help the people affected by the disaster return to a normal life as quickly as possible.

Germany is celebrating two major anniversaries in 2009: 60 years ago, the promulgation of the Basic Law represented the birth of the Federal Republic of Germany; 20 years ago, in November, the Berlin Wall came down. These historical turning points mark a period spanning from the economic miracle in post-war Germany to the end of the Cold War in 1989.
